Snow Australia’s Para Alpine team is actively looking to find experienced, knowledgeable, passionate and dynamic individuals to fill the roles of Para Alpine Head Coach and Team Ski & Equipment Technician.
The Para Alpine Ski Team trains domestically and competes on the international stage through the northern winter at World Para Alpine World Cup Circuit, World Championships and Paralympic Games. Both roles would require travel and flexible schedules.
Para Alpine Head Coach:
The Para Alpine Head Coach is a full- time position for the Para Alpine Ski Team. In collaboration with the Para Program Manager the Head Coach will set up an environment promoting the development and performance of athletes. The Head Coach is responsible for leading and executing a vision for the Para Alpine Ski Team to achieve podium performances at the Paralympic Winter Games, World Championships and World Cups.
Primarily responsible for coordinating and leading on-snow training throughout the year for a range of para-athletes, with key aims of developing technical and athletic abilities and fostering a vibrant training environment. Other responsibilities include; high performance planning and execution of modern team annual training and competition plans and coordinating with athlete performance support service providers to ensure best possible daily training and competition environment.
This role requires dynamic leadership, the ability to create a positive team environment and culture to allow each athlete to reach their potential on and off snow. The Head Coach will be required to work in collaboration with other coaches and teams to ensure the best possible training environment, a confident communicator with athletes from different backgrounds and disabilities and at different stages of athletic development, as well as team staff and other program stakeholders.
Requirements
- 5+ years coaching FIS (technical and speed events) or equivalent experience on Para circuit.
- Experience working with Para athletes, and a clear understanding of Para classifications and para-athlete’s abilities, adapted equipment and IPC rules is preferable
- Leadership skills to develop and contribute to the development of a High-Performance team and to build strong relationships and credibility with athletes, coaches and support staff
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Valid Driver’s Licence
- Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain one)
- Ability to travel and commit to the team schedule- domestic and international camps.
Team Ski & Equipment Technician:
Snow Australia is seeking a team player who will work with athletes and coaching staff to ensure the best possible equipment preparation for daily training/competition needs.
Primary role is to ensure equipment is prepared for daily training and competition, and to build respectful relationships with all team members (athletes and staff) to ensure good communication in regards to equipment is a priority. This includes attending on snow training and competition to assist with adjusting/repairing equipment as required.
The technician will also work to mentor and educate athletes and staff about equipment selection, preparation and maintenance. The role will be required to manage and source relevant team and athlete equipment and wax needs.
Requirements
- Previous experience with ski tuning/ski service in a ski-team environment
- Ability to work with limited supervision
- Ability to work on-hill (relatively high skill on skis or snowboard)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Background and knowledge in skiing racing, and or working with para-athletes
- Valid Driver’s Licence
- Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain one)
- Ability to travel and commit to the team schedule- domestic and international camps.
