Junior Tour Opportunities in 2018-2019
Published Thu 09 Aug 2018
Following on from the recent announcement of coaching appointments for the AUSXC 2018-2019 international program, SSAXC would like to inform junior athletes of two opportunities in the coming northern hemisphere winter.
The AUSXC Junior Tour will be based predominantly in Davos, Switzerland, with primary aims of gaining international training and competition experience, developing technique, and preparing athletes for the 2019 World Junior Championships in Finland. Led by Callum Watson and Teresa Riman, it is expected that this tour will consist of Australian Junior Team athletes who have either pre-qualified of the 2019 World Junior Championships or are best positioned towards competing at this level in 2019 or 2020. The preliminary tour duration will be approximately 4-5 weeks from mid-December to mid-January, at which point athletes not competing at the 2019 World Junior Championships will return to Australia.
The AUSXC Junior Development Tour will likely be based in Canada, with the primary aims of introducing athletes aged 16-17 to international travel, training and competition, developing technique, and building a positive team environment. Led by Iris Pessey and Phillip Bellingham, it is expected that this tour will include some members of the Australian Junior Team and other leading state team athletes. The preliminary tour duration will be approximately 4-5 weeks starting from around Christmas.
Expressions of interest for both tours will be called for following the last Australian Junior Team selection races at Falls Creek on August 18-19. Applicants will need to supply their training and competition goals for 2018-2019, as well as a training summary from the past year. Further details of trip costs, locations and schedules will be made available at that time.
