Kate Blamey will join an expanded coaching team for the NSWIS Freestyle Moguls Program for the next winter cycle.
The former athlete brings a wealth of experience to the NSW Institute of Sport, following coaching roles with The Mogul Skiing Academy, Perisher Snowsports School and most recently the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club.
During her time in the American system, Blamey was named the 2017 US Freestyle Domestic Coach of Year, recognised for her leadership, commitment, sport knowledge and passion.
“It’s exciting to be returning to the Australian mogul skiing community after three years in Steamboat Springs, Colorado” said Blamey.
Blamey also holds a Master of Science Human Nutrition and a Bachelor of Science Exercise & Sport.
“I’m particularly keen to apply my experience and knowledge acquired in the U.S. to the strong, up and coming, Australian development team and I am of course looking forward to doing my bit to help build on the already great skills of Australia’s high-performance mogul skiers.
“After an excellent performance by the Australian Mogul Team in PyeongChang I am thrilled to have been asked to join the strong and extremely experienced coaching team of Peter McNiel, Steve Desovich and Jerry Grossi.”
The new fulltime NSWIS Freestyle Moguls Coach is a co-funded partnership with the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia (OWIA) and Ski & Snowboard Australia (SSA).
Blamey will combine with recently appointed NSWIS Freestyle Moguls Head Coach Peter McNiel in what Ski & Snowboard Australia CEO Michael Kennedy considers as one of the best development coaching teams in the world.
“The calibre of coaching we now have for the entire moguls’ pathway is exceptional” said Kennedy.
“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Kate back to Australia to support our mogul skiing pathway. With three top five results in PyeongChang including a silver medal the sport is in a great place and adding Kate to the coaching mix will ensure our next generation athletes have access to World Class expertise”.
Blamey will commence her role in late June.
