The 2019/20 big air World Cup season moved to Sun Trust Park on Saturday night, the home of Major League baseball’s Atlanta Braves, with Matt Cox lining up for Australia.
On the back of his top 10 finish at the opening World Cup last weekend, Cox didn’t quite land the result he was after, finishing 20th with a score of 70.25.
The 21 year old who hails from New South Wales currently sits in 11th place in the overall rankings.
The stunning course and venue was the first big air World Cup on US soil since competition was held at Boston’s Fenway Park almost four years ago and did not disappoint, with some heavy tricks going down from the start of qualifications to the end of finals on Friday.
Cox said despite the score, he was happy with his performance overall and is looking ahead to the next competition already.
“I was super hyped, I landed both my runs. I didn’t quite get the score I wanted which is a little bit of bummer but it’s on to the next,” said Cox.
“So this BIg Air here kind of wraps everything up for the season and we’re on to slopestyle next should be awesome.
“The venue has been incredible, we’re at a Baseball stadium… we got to sit in the locker room where the baseball players sit and walk out through the dug out into the venue,” he said.
