Australian Para-snowboarder Joany Badenhorst’s medal streak has continued into day two of the IPC Para-snowboard World Cup in The Netherlands, taking out silver in the second Banked Slalom event of the competition.
After posting times of 48.09 for both her first and second runs, Badenhorst clocked 48.12 in her concluding run to finish just 2.05 seconds behind Lisa Bundschoten (NED) and 2.51 seconds in front of bronze medallist Renske van Beek.
Maintaining his pace from day one of competition was Sean Pollard in the men’s SB-UL class. Out of 21 competitors, the Western Australian native placed fifth in a time of 43.85, with fellow Australian Simon Patmore (45.16) placing ninth.
Sochi 2014 Paralympian Ben Tudhope improved on his time once again in the ever competitive men’s SB-LL2 class. In a very close finish, Tudhope placed sixth in a time of 41.71 – a mere 1.38 seconds off first place.
Australian Coach Lukas Prem commented that Lukas Prem said the competition saw the most competitive field parasnowboard has ever seen.
“I'm really happy with the overall performance of the team. Traditionally we never had the best results on this indoor slope in the Netherlands but all athletes are absolutely within the world’s best,” he said.
The Australian Para-snowboard team will now travel to Pyha, Finland for the next IPC Para-snowboard World Cup races, which begin on December 1.
