From future Olympians to current Olympians, various competitions around the Australian ski fields last weekend provided lots of results.
2018 KANGAROO HOPPET
PyeongChang Winter Olympian Barbara Jezeršek claimed back-to-back titles in the women’s division while Valerio Leccardi won his fourth Kangaroo Hoppet in nine years at Falls Creek on Saturday.
Over 1,000 skiers from 25 countries took part with recent snowfalls and good weather serving up great racing conditions for all competitors.
In the women’s race Jezeršek, second place getter Aurélie Dabudyk and bronze medal winner Cambria McDermott broke away from the rest of the women’s field early on.
Jezeršek then put her foot down and skied away unchallenged to claim her second consecutive title.
While in the men’s event a pack of six formed early on, before Australian Callum Watson picked up the pace with Swiss Valerio Leccardi and fellow Australian teammate Phil Bellingham the only athletes able to go with Watson.
Leccardi made a decisive move away from Bellingham as they returned from Sun Valley the second time and finished strongly for his first event victory since 2015.
Australia’s junior cross country skiers performed well in the 21km Australian Birkebeiner event with Darcie Morton and Nic Blackwell crowned champions in their respective races.

NSW AND VICTORIAN STATE INTERSCHOOLS CHAMPIONSHIPS
The New South Wales and Victorian Subaru State Interschools Championships have concluded with students competing against the best of the best in their states.
Thredbo and Mt Buller played host to both State Championships throughout the week with students aiming for qualification to the National Championships early next month at Perisher.

FIS ANC SLALOM AND GIANT SLALOM SET TO CONTINUE
The Australian leg of the FIS ANC Slalom and Giant Slalom race series wrapped up at Mt Hotham on Friday with Australian skiers performing well on the international stage.
PyeongChang Olympian Greta Small competed in the first Giant Slalom race placing sixth in the field followed closely by Australian National Team Member Madison Hoffman in eighth.
Hoffman continued to impress in the first Slalom race claiming silver behind Swiss woman Charlotte Chable.
Another standout result for Australian was the performance of Mt Hotham local Louis Muhlen-Schult who won silver in the second Slalom race after a solid training season with Mt Hotham Racing Squad.
Athletes will now travel to Coronet Peak in New Zealand for the third and fourth races in the FIS ANC series.
