The 2019 Mogul Ski World Victorian Interschools Snowsport Championships and 2019 Subaru SSA Northern States Interschools Championships are almost upon us.
The hugely popular events will be staged at Mt Buller (Vic) and Perisher (NSW) with competition beginning in the resort towns on 19 August.
As well as an additional 43 schools, the Victorian Championships has experienced a boost of almost 1,000 entries since 2017. A total of 2,684 athletes are expected to compete across the event which boasts a number of exciting additions:
- On the Friday, the event will host a twilight division 1 moguls event under-lights on Chamois, followed by a jump show, medal presentations and large fireworks show
- Olympian Tess Coady will judge the Slopestyle events and present medals
- A multi-class and Special Olympics Championships competition will see 28 participants with a disability taking part.
Three NSW, ACT and Qld regional championships have been held this season as qualifiers for the States event.
After three qualifying rounds, the Perisher event has attracted 3,785 entries, 1,693 participants and 417 schools.
The north of the border event Championships will also host the 2019 National Winter Games for Special Olympics with 41 participants with a disability expected to compete.
In positive signs for snowsport, the three regional championships collectively experienced a five percent growth on 2018 figures.
A no doubt nail-biting competition for the athletes and schools alike.
