NAC meeting updates on working groups

Published Fri 04 Dec 2020

Snow Australia’s National Alpine Committee (NAC) convened last week for its annual Spring meeting, with important updates on working groups, membership and planning for the 2021-2022 season on the agenda.

Work on three of the four national working groups aimed at progressing initiatives included in the National Alpine Plan (NAP) has already started. The Communication Working Group will be officially formed in the coming months, which include representatives from NSW and Victoria Clubs and Committees. The NAC are drafting a National Communication Strategy and will soon seek feedback from the alpine community on the current communication activities. Insights from the consultation will be used to inform the strategy moving forward.

The Capability Working Group has been formed with the five head coaches from Snow Australia Affiliated Clubs including Falls Creek Race Club, Hotham Ski Racing Squad, Mt Buller Ski Racing Club, Perisher Winter Sports Club and Thredbo Ski Race Club. The group has met regularly to discuss national priorities that align with the NAC. Further meetings will be scheduled for 2021. Further information about the initiatives of the group will be available shortly.

Finally, the NAC will soon seek expressions of interest from Clubs and the alpine community to establish the Capacity Working Group. A National Alpine Fundraising plan has already been drafted and will be rolled out shortly.

As part of its risk management overview, the NAC has also discussed a range of risks associated with discipline activities, functions and resources, including Club and member safety and wellbeing, financial sustainability and membership value connection.

After an unprecedented season during which no events were held in Australia, the 2021 Alpine Calendar planning is underway, with dates and resorts for the National Championships and Australia/New Zealand Cup still to be confirmed and dates for the Snow Australia Children’s Carnival to be released before Christmas.

Information about the 2021-22 Alpine Membership is being finalised and will be released early next year.
