Snow Australia is pleased to release the National Alpine Plan (2020-2026), which outlines the strategic direction for alpine sport in Australia.

The National Alpine Plan was developed in continuation of the 2018 Alpine and Ski Cross Review and Roadmap, and consulted with Affiliated Clubs and Northern Management Committee and it’s relevant sub-committee.

Snow Australia Alpine Director Shawn Fleming said that it was critical to develop a longer-term plan with the aim to coordinate and communicate key initiatives of the discipline and its future direction.

“The National Alpine Plan reflects the discipline’s contribution and commitment to the four key strategic priorities outlined in the Snow Australia whole of sport strategy,” Fleming said.

“For alpine sport, it was important for us to develop this plan, as we look towards the next two Olympic Games.”

“The National Alpine Plan was created to assist us to lead and facilitate a better-practice approach to sport development, and also to help identify strengths and opportunities within the pathway to leverage, create and deliver key initiatives across the Strategic pillars,” he said.

National Alpine Committee Chairman Matt Lyons said that the National Alpine Plan is built on a rolling approach, and will be reviewed continuously as initiatives evolve and are completed.

“This is not intended to be a ‘set-and-forget’ approach, but rather a functional strategy which responds to the needs of the sport, community, organisation and social environment in which it operates,” Lyons said.

“It is imperative that all stakeholders understand the direction of the discipline, their role within the plan and how they can support the long-term outcomes.”

“To clarify the roles and responsibilities of each of the stakeholders, we will establish four National Working Groups, each taking a particular focus,” he said.

Working groups have started to be established, with further details to become available as this work progresses.
