NATIONAL DISCIPLINE COMMITTEE RESTRUCTURE

Published Thu 14 Nov 2024

A message from Daniel Bosco, Snow Australia President

Dear Snowsports Community,

I am pleased to inform you that, following a comprehensive 12-month review, the Snow Australia Board, with support from the Management Team, has completed a refresh and restructure of our National Discipline Committees (NDCs).

After extensive community consultation and an open call for expressions of interest, we have now appointed our new committee members.

I am pleased to advise that the groups feature stronger gender balance, significant athlete involvement, and a younger cohort that will better address the evolving needs of our athletes, coaches and pathways.

Ultimately, the purpose of the review and the resulting changes was to ensure that our committees are well-positioned to help our Board and Management Team uphold the highest standards of good governance.

Our NDCs play a crucial role as expert technical advisors to the Board and serve as an essential link to the snow sports community. Given the increasing demands on our Board to have expertise beyond sport-specific topics, both the Board and staff rely heavily on the technical advice provided by our committee representatives.

Throughout the restructure, our focus has been on maintaining the highest level of technical expertise within each committee, while also managing potential conflicts of interest.

We welcome and thank the four newly appointed Chairs, Alice Chilcott, Ashleigh Spittle, David Harper and Brodie Summers. In line with our ongoing commitment to achieving gender balance across all areas of the sport, we are particularly pleased to note that there will be 45% female representation across all committees.

We also wish to thank all past members and chairs of our NDCs who have dedicated significant time and effort over many years to snow sports.  In particular we recognise outgoing chairs, David Speirs, Rob Dickson, Matt Lyons and Peter Cunningham for their years of service and dedication.

The inclusion of Conference Members also marks a significant development. These members will serve as representatives and advocates for the discipline community, ensuring their voices are heard, providing a direct pathway to the National Discipline Committee (NDC).

More than anything, we hope that the community will recognise new names and faces on the NDCs and feel more connected to this segment of our organisation.

Finally, in support of transparency and governance in athlete selections, the Board has also established a new, independent Selection Committee. This committee will provide a clear separation between the establishment of criteria and its implementation, setting a new standard for governance in athlete selection processes across all sports.

An expression of interest to join this committee will be advertised in the coming weeks.

We extend our gratitude to everyone who participated in this process. We are confident that these changes will strengthen our sport and further elevate our reputation for good governance.
