New nordic skiers gave Cross-country a go at Perisher

More than 70 participants attended the ‘Come and Try’ Cross-Country skiing day recently held at the Perisher Cross-country Centre.

The day involved a 2-hour lesson to learn the basic techniques and skills of the sport, followed by a barbecue lunch and a tour of the 3.5km trails at Perisher.

Knowledgeable instructors made taking the first strides on nordic skis a fun experience for all, and friends and families were able to safely discover the beautiful Alpine environment surrounding the Perisher Cross-country trails.

Jane O’Dwyer was one of the participants who enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere on the snow. She said that trying out Cross-country skiing with her friends was a brilliant experience.

“An enthusiastic Alpine skier, I’ve been meaning to try Cross-country for years. Now I wish I’d come along earlier, and am already planning more lessons and lots of exploring of the beautiful cross-country tracks,” she said.

Like Jane, many others enjoyed their first nordic experience and returned the following day to give the sport another go.

For those who missed the opportunity, coming on next month from 7-15 August is “XC Ski Week”, a week for all Cross-country skiing enthusiasts from beginners, recreational skiers to seasoned racers.
