Park and Pipe Community Update - February 2024

Dear Park and Pipe Community,
The Northern winter continues to rage on with plenty of Aussie Park and Pipe action having taken place between the beginning of the New Year and today.
Today marked the final day of the Winter Youth Olympic Games in Gangwon, South Korea. Australian Park and Pipe athletes included: Daisy Thomas & Joey Elliss (Freeski Big Air/Slopestyle), Ally Hickman & Milo Botterill (Snowboard Big Air/Slopestyle), and Sascha Elvy, Amelie Haskell & Tai Vaughan (Snowboard Halfpipe). Ally Hickman made it to the finals in the Snowboard Big Air event, finishing 9th, while Daisy Thomas and Joey Elliss were both able to make finals, with Joey finishing 5th and Daisy securing Australia’s first Youth Olympic Games Big Air medal with her 2nd place finish.

Over to the World Cup scene, Halfpipe Snowboarders Scotty James and Valentino Guseli made history in Laax, securing the 1st and 2nd places respectively in what was an extremely talented field. Tess Coady narrowly missed out on her second podium of the season at the Slopestyle event taking out 4th place after finishing 2nd in the qualification.

Scotty James was able to continue his hot streak heading to Aspen for the X-Games and taking out the Gold medal in the SuperPipe event, marking his third straight X-Games SuperPipe win, you can read more about it in the article below. On the women’s side of the SuperPipe, Olympian Emily Arthur finished 7th in her X-Games debut.

Men’s and Women's results: Current and Past Results - X Games
This morning (AEDT), Emily Arthur, and World Cup debutant, Misaki Vaughan, compete in the Snowboard Halfpipe World Cup at Mammoth Mountain, Arthur finished 11th whilst Vaughan 15th. Following weather delays, Kai Martin will compete in the Freeski Slopestyle Qualification early tomorrow morning.

Following these events, Australian athletes, Emily Arthur, Sascha Elvy, Scotty James and Valentino Guseli will compete in the Calgary, Canada Snowboard Halfpipe beginning Feb 10th.
