Park & Pipe Coordinator Update - July 2022

Published Sat 09 Jul 2022

P+P Snow Australia Members,

The season is now in full swing with the school holidays and pathway and performance program activity underway across all resorts.

This last month saw the 2022/2023 ETP athletes gather at the AIS for a performance weekend of activity and testing. This was straight of the back of a 2-week airbag camp at the NSTC Park in Jindy. The weekend was a great opportunity to be exposed to the AIS facilities, performance education and to connect as a P+P cohort.

Being physically prepared and Snow Ready is a consistent message and education piece at camps like the AIS weekend. Being able to train at a peak level for longer on snow or hike that rail an extra 10 times makes a huge difference to your ability to progress.

Once you have done this weeks workout above, Registration is now live for the Perisher Park Showdown. ‘The Showdown’ is a highly anticipated event on the Park & Pipe domestic calendar, and will take place at Perisher from the 1-5 August and feature a FIS ANC Big Air as well as two FIS ANC Slopestyle competitions. A great spectacle for competitors and spectators alike.

Getting a weekly session in on the NSTC Park airbag is another great training aid, and the NSTC Park got another visit from the Deputy Premier last week to confirm a $1.5 million dollar grant. The additional funding grant will enable us to fit out the NSTC centre and build a clubhouse for the NSTC Park community sport users, so it can be a year-round, multi-sport training facility, accessible to high performance snow sport athletes, community sporting teams, other wintersport programs, and the Jindabyne and Snowy Mountain community.

The COVID shutdown in 2021 meant this has been shelved for the last 12 months, but we are excited to release the AUS Park + Pipe Snow Australia Series which incorporates a virtual video comp, the rescheduled Airbag BA comp and comps in Hotham, Buller, Thredbo and Perisher. The series gives a concept of a competition season, unifies events across multiple states and puts the focus on consistency and not too much pressure on one event. It also results in a National Series Points List (NSPL) for P+P SKI and SNB that can be used to guide invitations to developmental training opportunities.

Wax those skis and boards, and head out for a slide switch around the mountain and terrain parks.

Stay safe, Ride hard.

David Parr
Park & Pipe Program Coordinator
