Park & Pipe Team selected for World Junior Championships

Twenty-five athletes have been selected to represent Australia at the FIS Park and Pipe Junior World Championships 2023 in Cardrona, New Zealand.

Competition will take place from 25 August to 8 September and form part of the 10th annual Winter Games NZ.

Sixteen snowboarders have been selected to compete (plus one emergency) alongside nine skiers. Eight of the 25 athletes are returning after competing at the 2022 Junior World Championships in Leysin, Switzerland: Jesse Parkinson, Joey Elliss, Jamie Ashcroft, Chelsee Kelley, Bella Caddy-Gammel, Jess McGregor, Sascha Elvy (pictured) and Josh Robertson-Hahn.

Parkinson and Robertson-Hahn are back for their third Junior World Titles have also taken part in 2019 in Klaeppen, Switzerland.

Parkinson and Elvy are the only two athletes with World Cup experience in the team, while Thomas who was second at the World Rookie Tour Finals earlier this year.

Australia last featured on the podium at the Park & Pipe Junior World Championships when 2022 Olympic bronze medallist and two-time World Championships bronze medallist Tess Coady won gold in both slopestyle and big air. 

Scott Kneller, Snow Australia Park & Pipe Discipline Chair, said he is excited to the see the talent coming through the ranks and is looking forward to watching them take on the world later this year.

“It’s great to see strong representation across both Freeski and Snowboard,” he said. “We look forward to having a large group travel over the ditch and compete in a Junior World Championships so close to home.”
