Park and Pipe Community Update - October 2023

Published Thu 26 Oct 2023

Dear Park and Pipe Community,

As we draw closer to summer, we turn our attention to the Northen hemisphere where many of our Park and Pipe athletes will travel to train and compete.

Over in Chur, Switzerland, our Park and Pipe World Cup Team got their Northern season underway with the first Big Air World Cup event of the season. Australia’s representation included Kai Martin (Freeski) and Josh Robertson-Hahn (Snowboard), who got their first taste of World Cup action, finishing 40th and 24th in their events respectively. 2023 Overall Park and Pipe Cup Winner Valentino Guseli also competed at the event, where he was able to qualify for the finals, finishing 7th, in what proved to be a show of Japanese snowboarding dominance with the nation taking out the top 3 spots in the Men’s and the top 2 in the Women’s final.

The full results for both the Men’s and Women’s events can be viewed below:

The next World Cup event will be the Freeski Slopestyle event in Stubai, Austria beginning on November 24, then quickly followed by the Big Air World Cup in Beijing, China for Freeski and Snowboard from November 30. We will see Tess Coady make her season debut in China and will be joined by Valentino Guseli, Josh Robertson-Hahn and Kai Martin in the Freeski.

Don’t forget, if you intend to travel overseas to compete this season there a number of requirements that need to be met before you can get in the start gate. You must ensure that you are a current international member of Snow Australia and are registered with FIS, have adequate competition insurance and have submitted your event expression of interest (EOI) form to the Snow Australia office. More information on all these requirements is available in the ‘Competing Overseas’ article below.

Snow Australia has updated the Recognised Pathway Provider program for 2024 which is used identify those clubs and programs that provide important pathway development, training, support and opportunities to the snowsports community. We will take the opportunity over the next few months to acknowledge Recognised Pathway Providers in Park & Pipe with Turn & Burn the first club to be profiled. You can read more about the club, how they’re positively influencing the ski and snowboard community, and what they’re aiming to achieve in the years to come.

As always, we wish you all the best and for those competing overseas, good luck and stay safe.
