Pro freestyle riders share their tips in SSA Futures park & pipe sessions

In a true case of 'sun’s out, gun’s out'; a combination of the sun shining and the newly built Playstation park at Perisher brought many of Australia’s gun freestyle riders out to join SSA Futures in a coaching and mentoring role this week.

66 young SSA Futures participants got to ski and snowboard with Australia’s top park and pipe riders to develop their freestyle skills ahead of the Australian Junior Freeride Championships also at Perisher this weekend.

Eager to test out the new 50, 55 and 63 foot jumps themselves ahead of World Cup events in New Zealand later this month, OWIA athletes Jess Rich, Russ Henshaw and Nate Johnston were joined by David Parr, Ryan Tiene, Leon Tarbotton, Luke Juergensen and Josh Vagne to share their tips and experience with the up and coming SSA Futures participants over two days of fun riding and instruction.

“In Futures, the up and coming kids get exposure to high performance coaching and get to work with Australia’s top athletes with different coaching styles across multiple disciplines, to learn about the pathway and what it takes to become an elite athlete.” Said David Parr, SSA Emerging Talent Scholarship snowboard head coach.

SSA’s Emerging Talent Scholarship (ETS) team for freeski and snowboard also joined SSA Futures and will be looking to leave an impression on the Championships this weekend.

The Australian Junior Freeride Championships is Australia’s premier junior park and pipe freeski and snowboard event in Australia, and kicks off Friday at Perisher 11-13 August 2017.
