To compete in SkiMo races overseas you need to be registered with Snow Australia and ISMF. To assist we have provided below some information on the registration process.
Background
Snow Australia has been officially recognised as a full National Federation member of the International Ski Mountaineering Federation (ISMF). The ISMF, an independent International Federation recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), confirmed the formal acceptance of Snow Australia’s application at its Plenary Assembly that took place earlier this year in Oviedo, Spain.
Ski Mountaineering (SkiMo) will be included in the Winter Olympic Games programme for the first time at Milano Cortina 2026, reflecting the recent international growth of a discipline that has a long, established tradition in Europe.
SkiMo Membership and Racing License
As the National Federation Snow Australia is responsible for submitting license applications to the ISMF. Below is a summary of the steps involved and please make sure you note that applications will take at least 7 days to be processed.
- Apply for Snow Australia membership and ISMF Race License via the membership section of the Snow Australia website: www.snow.org.au/membership
- Following your application being received by Snow Australia, your information will be submitted to the ISMF.
- Once processed by the ISMF, the applicant will be provided with a temporary License pending the applicant signing and submitting additional information. This information will be forwarded to the applicant by Snow Australia.
- When complete Snow Australia will submit the signed paperwork to the ISMF to finalise and confirm your Race License. You will be notified once approved.
