SKI DE FEMME  - A Community cross country ski event at Falls Creek (Saturday 13th August 2016) designed by Women for Women.

Over 100 women ranging from 18-70 years, donned their activewear and layered-up for a cardio hit-out in the snow, at Falls Creek, last Saturday.

This community event, now in its 27th year, was run by volunteers from the The Birkebeiner Nordic Ski Club, as a day out on cross country skis for women.

Ski De Femme offered free cross country skiing instruction in small groups, for both novice and intermediate skiers in a choice of classical or skating techniques.

The clinics were led by some of Australia’s top female skiers, as well as the XC Gold team from Sun Valley and the only male (who wore a wig so was an honorary female for the day) instructor, Kristian Holmsen from Norway.

The clinics are a fun way for women of all abilities to learn some basic cross country skiing skills, or pick up some new tips to improve that technique.

Following the 2 hour lesson,  the skiers tried out their newly acquired cross country skate and classic skills, in some fun races: 1km; 2.5km and 5km for all levels of skier.

After the race the hungry skiers fuelled up on some wickedly delicious Brazen Brownies, and a strong cup of tea.

The future of cross country skiing is in great shape, if Saturday’s turnout of fit, fabulous, fun-loving females is any indication!
