Snow Australia announces inaugural Snowboard Alpine FUTURES

Snow Australia is excited to announce it will be hosting the inaugural Snowboard Alpine FUTURES event on Saturday 29 July at Mount Buller.
With mentoring from National Team athletes Harvey Edmanson and Millie Bongiorno, the program is designed to prepare snowboarders aged 12-19 for Snowboard Alpine competition with exposure to technical elements of the sport.
The FUTURES event will focus on increasing the knowledge of athlete pathway opportunities and programs to establish a consistent and unified approach to athlete development.
Snow Australia’s Program Operations & Sport Development Coordinator, Johnny Lipzker, said Snow Australia are really excited to be delivering a camp that the Snowboard Alpine community have shown their eagerness for.
“After an overwhelming positive response from the expressions of interest we put out in June, I am so pleased that we’re able to give our snowboard community the opportunity to attend a Snowboard Alpine FUTURES event,” Lipzker said.
“We have established FUTURES events across other ski and snowboard disciplines, and this new event will allow us to better bridge the gap between Interschools competition participation and involvement in seasonal Snow Australia Pathway Programs.
“It will be a fantastic day for developing athletes to progress their understanding and skills, and to also learn directly from National Team athletes Millie and Harvey, and Australian team coach Leigh Delahoy.”
The program is targeted at recognised Snow Australia Pathway Club athletes, however Club membership is not a prerequisite. Participants that are not affiliated with a Club should be interested in joining a pathway program and have the skills required to ride on a competition level GS course. This prerequisite skill should include confidence to link turns and navigate snowboard gates on a medium to sleep stope.
