Snow Australia Extends Best Wishes to Belle Brockhoff

Snow Australia extends its best wishes to Belle Brockhoff who sustained a serious back injury at the Snowboard Cross World Cup race in Georgia on Saturday.

The three-time Olympian was at her comeback event after suffering a broken arm at the start of the season when she crashed at relatively high speed and landed on her coccyx.

Belle was airlifted from the course and taken to a Tbilisi hospital where examination and imaging revealed a fracture of the L1 vertebrae, with no neurological damage.

Belle was then evacuated to Greece for surgery.

A member of the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia medical team is accompanying and supporting Belle. Belle’s partner has also flown to Greece to be with her.

After surgery it is expected that Belle will remain in Athens to rehabilitate for up to two weeks before returning to Australia.

“The thoughts of the Australian snowsports community are with Belle after the events which unfolded on the weekend,” said Michael Kennedy, Snow Australia CEO.

“Belle is an extremely popular member of the community and has been an inspiration to many up-and-coming snowboarders who admire her grit, determination and good humour.

“Injuries are part and parcel of competing at the highest level, and it should never be underestimated just how brave and committed athletes are to their sport.

“We wish Belle all the best as she continues her immediate rehabilitation in Europe and hope to see her back home soon.”
