Snowboard Committee Working Group

The Snowboarding Community Working Group hit the ground running recently at the successful Snow Australia Jindabyne Snow Sale.  A stunning day on the mountains meant huge crowds travelled for the opening weekend and with queues around the block well before 8am and Steve Cooper on the microphone drumming up business, the SCWG BBQ was soon doing a roaring trade – so much so that despite a few runs to Nuggets to restock, we were out of food by noon!

Special thanks to the Committee – lead by our inspirational leader Darren Vardy who managed to secure, amongst other items, the last remaining lettuce in NSW; logistics leader Kelli Wilson for “arranging” the use of the SMGS BBQs and devising the ingenious menu; Nick Wilson as chief cook and part time roadie; Paul Billingham for “working the pass” and not burning too much along the way; Danielle Cook and Lisa Dent for manning the counter and supporting Abbey, Leon, and Marcie to relieve the salegoers of their money; and Rob Dickson for testing product quality and encouraging the team as they began to flag!

All funds raised go toward the promotion of snowboarding and supporting athletes.

The SCWG is next looking forward to hosting a season opening function on 2 July 2022 for NSW and ACT families at the Jindabyne Bowling Club between 5 – 6pm for athletes, parents, supporters and the like.

Mount Buller Race Club is looking forward to the 2022 season and delivering one of the pathway programs for Snowboard Athletes. The season kicks off with our Winter Welcome being held on Saturday 25 June 2022, then we will be gearing up for our first two King of the Mountain GS events being held on 9 and 31 July.

The 2022 season will see that Team Hotham has expanded to become a full-service Winter Sports Club and becoming a pathway provider to Snowboard Athletes. We are pleased to be once again hosting the ANC SBX series, a Junior FIS event as well as the Future camp on our full time SBX course. As get closer to these events will keep you updated on other activities that will surround these events for athletes, their parents and supporters alike.

In the meantime, on 9 July 2022 we are holding Team Hotham’s major fundraising event THE AMAZING AUCTION at The General, Mt Hotham visit www.mhrs.org.au/events to find out more details. This year the proceeds of the auction will go toward the purchase of new timing equipment. On the same day as the auction, athletes will also participate in THE AMAZING RACE, which is where all athletes will race around Hotham with teammates, finding clues, competing and having loads of fun.
