Dear Snowboard Community,
Competitions have now commenced for this winter and what a packed schedule it is. Just a reminder that a Snow Australia FIS JNR SBX Series – Powered by the Chumpy Pullin Foundation is kicking off at Thredbo this weekend.
It’s great news that The Chumpy Pullin Foundation is partnering with Snow Australia and the resorts to be a part of the series. They are contributing prizes to be awarded throughout the series.
An overall National Champion in both men’s and women’s divisions will also be announced at the conclusion of the four-event series.
The dates and details are below:
- Thredbo – 31 July
- Mt Buller – 14 August
- Hotham – 31 August
- Perisher – TBC
Registration is now open for the Mt Buller Event and the Thredbo Event with Hotham to follow shortly.
The NSWIS Induction was held on last Friday at NSW Sport and Recreation in Jindabyne. Congratulations to all the SBX athletes that have been awarded NSWIS Scholarships for the 2022/23 year and a special congratulations also goes out to Jackson Holtham who has been appointed as the NSWIS SBX Coach.
For those that know Jackson, he was born and raised in Adelaide and fell in love with snowboarding following a few family trips to Mt Hotham. After school he decided to become a snowboard instructor at Thredbo. Nearly 8 years later he found himself coaching snowboard cross. Jackson said “It’s been a crazy journey, but I really love the essence of the sport and the intricacies of coaching. We have a great SBX community in Australia and it's important to me to try build and continue that.”
On top of coaching, he loves AFL, the Sydney Swans, cycling, running & gastronomy!
“I’m grateful for the opportunity with NSWIS and am looking forward to the challenges and learnings it will bring!” said Jackson
We are excited to once again be working with Hotham to host the SBX FUTURES Talent Identification (TID) and skill development program. The program is designed to lead into the SBX FIS Junior and ANC Races. Participants will be given an authentic high-performance training experience over two days on course with the OWIA SBX Team. Click here for more information and to register.
The event dates at Mt Hotham are as follows:
- Monday 29 August - FUTURES
- Tuesday 30 August - FUTURES
- Wednesday 31 August - FIS Junior Series

I also encourage you to have a read of this month’s Athlete Spotlight written by OWIA athlete and Olympian Cam Bolton. The article is entitled “Old Dog, New Tricks”. It’s a very inspiring piece.
Good luck to all and enjoy the snow.
