Snowboard Community Update - October 2024
Published Fri 04 Oct 2024
Dear Snowboard Community,
James Johnstone here, currently training at home in Sydney after another great Australian season.
As most know, this year was not the greatest season for snow however myself and the NSWIS Snowboard Cross Team were able to make the most of it. We managed to do 54 days on snow with some great training in Perisher, Thredbo and also on the Snowboard cross track at Hotham Alpine Resort which we are so lucky to have as a snowboard community.
The domestic season training is always such a massive part of our year and we are really pleased with the skill based and technical work that we got done over this period. I hope everyone made the most of the snow that we had!
It was another very successful year at the Snow Australia Futures and ANC races back in August. It was amazing to see such a massive turnout for both Futures and the race days. It seemed as though all of the athletes who participated in both events had an awesome time and I know that I did too. We are so lucky to have the opportunity to compete at Hotham and the Futures program is a great way to get all of the club level athletes more involved in Snowboard cross.
As I said I’m back in Sydney and back training at the NSWIS gym in the Sydney Olympic Park. I’m there everyday doing weights and I’ve been spending a lot of time out on my bike road cycling. All in preparation for a big Northern Hemisphere season ahead!
It will be another great season of racing in Europe and America. I know that there are some excellent camp programs for younger athletes to get the chance to go overseas and compete so hope to see some of these athletes over there! I will be all over Europe from November until April so looking forward to getting back to international competitions.
For those competing overseas this Northern winter or are thinking about it, make sure you check the competing overseas page on the Snow Australia website. If you have any questions, reach out to the Snow Australia office, they are always happy to help.
Follow me @james_johnstone_ on instagram for updates during the season. If you see me in Sydney or overseas this Northern winter, make sure you come and say hi, I am always happy to chat!
All the best,
James Johnstone
