Alpine Preparation Camp a success

The Australian Institute of Sport played host to the Alpine/Ski Cross Athlete preparation camp last weekend to great success with more than 30 athletes attending.
The aim of the camp was to educate and prepare athletes born between 1999 and 2004 on the best practices in relation to preparation and development within a team performance environment.
The camp was delivered jointly by Snow Australia, OWIA, and Club coaches including Christian Gieger, Craig Branch, Bobbi Kelly, Charlee Kelly, Anthony Khoury and John Curtain.
Heading up the camp was OWIA Ski Cross Program Head Coach and Alpine Coordinator Shawn Fleming who was pleased to see all clubs represented.
“The highlight was having all the athletes come together, it was a great turn out,” Fleming said.
“It was great to see the level of engagement by all through all the different sessions of the weekend,” he said.
Across the three-day camp, athletes had the opportunity to participate in practical and educational sessions around the fundamentals for injury free progression, the importance of skill development, goal setting as well as acrobatic and gymnastics sessions.
Each of the sessions were led by experts from the Australian Institute of Sport.
Fleming said the camp was something that we look to build on in the future.
“Our intention is to look to be able to provide more opportunities in the future around similar style camps.”
