SSA Coach Academy Workshop
Published Fri 27 Sep 2019
The first workshop of the SSA Coach Academy was held at Jindabyne Sport and Recreational Centre earlier this week.
The SSA Coach Academy catered to Australia’s up and coming ski and snowboard performance coaches who work with international level athletes.
Each coach has been presented with an individual coaching plan, incorporating international experience, expert mentoring and personal development opportunities.
The framework of the SSA Coach Academy has been developed in consultation with Sport Australia, the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia, National Institute Network and sits underneath the AIS Coach development initiatives.
The first workshop was facilitated by Nam Baldwin, who comes from a long history of working with elite athletes and coaches from sports such as surfing and the Richmond AFL team.
Baldwin was supported by Performance Pathway & Program Manager Ben Wordsworth, NSWIS Winter Sport Coordinator Peter Topalovic across the three-day program.
Dr Graham Turner, AIS Performance Pathways Coaching Consultant, was also an integral part of the workshop, delivering key messages around communication and coaching strategies.
Topics of the workshop included mindfulness, how to succeed, coaching philosophies and identifying mentors.
The second workshop of the SSA Coach Academy will be held in three months time, giving coaches the opportunity to experiment with their learnings from workshop one throughout the northern winter.
