Ski Cross & Snowboard Cross Emerging Talent athletes will experience a day in the life of an elite athlete as part of Ski and Snowboard Australia’s (SSA) Next Generation Performance Camp.
Olympians Belle Brockhoff and Sami Kennedy-Sim (pictured her support team above) are working closely with SSA to run the first of its kind, all-female camp for Snowboard Cross and Ski Cross athletes from 28 July – 1 August at Perisher.
The live-in camp aims to simulate the life of an elite athlete on the road with expert-run sessions on nutrition, strength and conditioning, performance psychology and acrobatic training.
There will be a strong focus on performance and skill development with on-snow sessions combining elements of alpine, all mountain freeriding and freesking, Jump technique in the park and ski cross snowboard cross specific skills.
Mentoring support from the Olympians will be coupled with expert coaching from Jason Clauscen (NSW Institute of Sport Snowboard Cross Coach) and Shawn Fleming (OWIA Ski Cross Coach).
Ski Cross Olympian Kennedy-Sim said she was proud to support the next generation of snowsport athletes.
“The athletes joining us for this camp will get to experience life as an elite winter sports athlete,” Kennedy-Sim said.
“They will train alongside Belle and I, and be exposed to our high-performance coaches, training facilities and support staff.
“Hopefully the athletes leave the camp with a wealth of knowledge to assist them in their athletic endeavours,” she said.
The Next Gen Performance Camp is part of SSA’s Emerging Talent Program and is supported by the NSW Office of Sport with a Sport Development Grant.
SSA conducted a targeted selection based on athletes that are currently identified as being part of the performance pathway for Ski Cross & Snowboard Cross.
“We are excited to be able to run a camp for the next generation of female athletes in Ski Cross & Snowboard Cross through support from Ski and Snowboard Australia, NSW Office of Sport, Perisher Ski Resort and Jindabyne Sport & Recreation,” SSA Performance Pathway and Program Manager Ben Wordsworth said.
