Published Fri 05 Apr 2019

As part of Ski and Snowboard Australia’s commitment to the pathway and the belief that Australia’s Race Clubs should be pivotal in delivering best practices for athletic and sport development, SSA continues to implement its club workshop initiative. SSA’s club workshops assist Club development and increase the capacity to ensure the sport’s high-performance programs are delivered in the best possible manner.

Commencing June 2018, SSA delivered its first SSA Club workshops where all six clubs participated. The second round of SSA Club workshops were conducted in October 2018 with all six Australian Ski Clubs participating in individual workshops providing the clubs with the opportunity to formulate seasonal plans which improve club alignment and athletic development with the National strategy and performance pathway.

The club workshops were attended by the Club Presidents and Program Directors and Resort representatives. A clear process and key initiatives were agreed upon and work is underway on the delivery of the planning process for 2019.

The workshops incorporate a whole of sport approach to start emphasising the need for developing skills and foundational movements vital for long term development.
Specifically, the workshops assist Clubs with:

  • Monitoring and review processes
  • Establishing measurable KPI and program aims
  • Aligning performance and development strategies
  • Education initiatives for the Club community on pathway development
  • Assists Clubs to develop their own performance plan

An SSA club toolkit is provided to Clubs, to assist with Club development and to provide SSA with the necessary information to ensure they are delivering on best practice.

The SSA Club Toolkit includes:

  • Club Performance Plan
  • Club Athlete Individual Performance Plan
  • Program Planning Documents and Direction
  • Periodised Calendar Planning
  • FTEM (Framework for individual Club)
  • End of Season Reporting
  • Coach Evaluation and Assessment
  • Program Aims & KPI’s
  • Dryland & Physical Testing Guidelines
  • Introduction to Club Alignment / SSA Pathway Program
  • Skills Assessment / Education and Planning for 2019

The first 2019 Club Workshop will be conducted in June with all six Australian Ski Clubs participating in individual workshops. These workshops will include Program Directors and all the Club Coaching Staff. The focus of these workshops is to present the content gathered through the SSA club toolkit planning process to the club coaching staff. The desired outcome will be to provide continuity and consistency in delivering best practices for athletic and sports development.
