Ski and Snowboard Australia (SSA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ben Wordsworth to the role of SSA Performance Pathway & Program Manager.
Ben has progressed from Club level (Perisher Winter Sports Club & Mammoth Mountain, USA) through to the OWIA Head Snowboard Coach position in a coaching career spanning over 20 years.
Through his extensive time in the sport, Ben has developed a deep understanding of the Australian snow sport community along with great knowledge in performance and pathway strategy.
Ben’s role has a particular focus on providing opportunities for the development of emerging athletes and coaches.
SSA CEO Michael Kennedy says Ben will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role.
“His knowledge about the pathway and deep understanding of the key stakeholders is one of the strengths Ben brings to our team.
“His intimate knowledge of our sport system and his success at achieving sustained high-performance outcomes placed him uniquely to service our athletes, coaches and pathways.
“Ben will be a valuable resource for our existing and highly capable pathway coaches and coordinators,” he said.
On his appointment, Ben realises it is an exciting time to be involved with the sport in Australia after the recent results at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics and Australia’s depth of talented juniors.
“Working on the growth and pathway development for all winter sport is an area that I am very passionate about and see a great opportunity to further contribute to the future success of athletes in this country.
“I feel a great sense of excitement to be able to work across all sports and share my experience and knowledge in this role.
“I want to thank the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia for my role over the past 16 years. I look forward to getting started and meeting all the coaches, program managers and stakeholders over the coming months,” he said.
Ben will commence in the role from July 1.
