Just over a year ago the snow sport community was shocked at the news that Australian 3-time Olympian and Alpine Ski legend Steve Lee had suffered a major stroke at home in Falls Creek.
Steve Lee is a loved and respected member of the Snow Australia community, a positive, determined individual with a passion for skiing and a genuine enthusiasm for the mountains. In 1985 he made history becoming only the second Australian alpine skier ever to claim victory on the FIS World Cup circuit in Furano, Japan, in addition to donning the green and gold at three Winter Olympics between 1984 and 1992.
The stroke caused Steve to remain paralysed on his left side, with a long and hard road to recovery ahead of him. Steve’s family and friends launched a fundraising campaign under the hashtag #SteveLeeFightBack to cover ongoing costs for care and rehabilitation, and the community has rallied behind them to offer support and donations. During challenging times, almost 2,000 people contributed to the fundraiser, something Steve and his family are very grateful for.
Despite his improvements, of which you can read more about in an update provided by his family below, Steve will continue to need therapies, assistance and significant financial support for the rest of his life.
