Supporting Alpine Regions Impacted by Bushfires

Published Wed 05 Feb 2020

The bushfires have wrought devastation across many regions across Australia.  To varying degrees, they have also touched our Alpine and surrounding communities.

Snow Australia’s thoughts are with all affected.  In typical mountain spirit, these communities are fighting back, keen to regenerate and welcome back their valued visitors.

In coming months, Snow Australia will look for ways to support these communities and, as a minimum, share their initiatives.

Do you know of other programs, support and initiatives around Australia that are supporting our alpine communities who have been impacted by the bushfires? Get in touch so we can help spread the word - email info@snow.org.au

Bid on 115 snow travel items worth over $300,000!

The global ski and snowboard community have banded together to support Snow Aid Australia for bushfire relief/recovery and wildlife rescue/rehabilitation, powered by SnowsBest.com.

Australia has experienced unprecedented bushfires this summer and a disaster of epic proportions - 34 people have lost their lives, over 2000 homes are gone, 18.6 million hectares and 5900 structures have burned and more than 1 billion wildlife have perished.

Every single person on this auction has worked pro bono, including our designers, admin, even our legal team at Moulis Legal, the team at AirAuctioneer and our payment gateway, so that 100% of all auction proceeds will go to our chosen charities for bushfire relief and wildlife rescue.

Shake hands with the Snowies

The Jindabyne Chamber of Commerce invites you to "Shake hands with the Snowies”.

The NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) advise that the Thredbo Valley is open from Jindabyne via the Alpine Way. Aussies are encouraged to visit villages and towns in the Snowy Monaro region and they ask that holiday makers return and help the communities get back on their feet.

To acknowledge the re-opening, business owners, staff and residents are reaching out to visitors to say hello, welcome and thanks for being here with a good old-fashion handshake. With an outstretched arm of friendship “Shake Hands with the Snowies” will show visitors to the region we appreciate the support.

There is a huge line-up of upcoming special events, breathtaking scenery and activities galore there is no better time to get back to the Valley this summer.

With the doors open and many hands of friendship, the community is looking forward to visitors returning to “Shake Hands with the Snowies.”
