SX & SBX FUTURES | Stars of today guiding tomorrow's talent

As Snow Australia's FUTURES programs continue across the domestic season, more than 80 talented ski and snowboard cross athletes descended on Mount Hotham for two days of on-and-off snow training and education sessions.

Not only were the athletes led by some of the country's top coaches, leading athletes were also on hand to lend their expertise.

James Johnstone, Josie Baff, Adam Lambert and Cam Bolton were all on hand to help athletes with everything from course knowledge to starting technique. With a week of racing set to continue over the rest of the week, it was the perfect opportunity for up and coming athletes to hone their skills before taking it into competition. They were joined by fellow athletes Kyra Wheatley, Liam Michael, Emerson Facer, Mia Clift, Abbey Wilson Kobi Dent, Declan Dent, Will McCarthy and Angus Jones.

"We do some freeriding to start and then we get on the racecourse which they just love," said Johnstone. "We get them in practising starts and running full course laps and it's really a good chance for them to their skills and get ready for the Junior, Grom and Youth races.

"For me it's just such an amazing opportunity to give back to all the club programs that gave me so much and led me to where I am today."

After two days of coaching, Adam Lambert reflected on how his time in Futures helped to shape his career which has led to two Olympic appearances and three World Cup podiums.

"I was in FUTURES for probably four or five years," he said. "Back then I was in groups with 'Chumpy' [Alex Pullin] and Cam [Bolton] and it was always a good time.

"I learnt a lot during those camps that I did and I wouldn't change it."

"There's so many young kids and they're all frothing here and it's really good to see. The energy of everyone is awesome."

With the participants moving onto racing for the rest of the week, Snow Australia FUTURES resumes in around a month when our up-and-coming moguls athletes take part at the National Snowsports Training Centre in Jindabyne and on-snow at Perisher - click here for more information.
