It is with much sadness we announce that Life Member, Bert Gardner has passed away.

Bert is a Life Governor of the Police Citizens Youth Clubs and a Life Councillor for Scouts Australia NSW Branch. Bert’s long association with the Scouting movement saw him awarded the Silver Kangaroo, the highest award the Scouts have in 1981.

Bert’s contribution to sporting and community groups was officially recognised in 1979 when he was awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) and again in 1986 when he was awarded an AM (Member of the Order of Australia).

In 2008 Bert became Bond University’s oldest ever graduate when he graduated with a Masters Degree in International Relations.

Listed below just some of the many organisations he was involved with.

  • Kosciusko National Park Advisory Board
  • Police Citizens Youth Clubs - Life Governor
  • Scouts Australia NSW Branch – Life Councillor
  • St George Football Association - Life Member
  • Australian Ski Federation - Life Member
  • NSW Ski Association - Life Member
  • Perisher Ski Patrol - Life Member
  • Orana Ski Club - Life Member

Despite all of these achievements Bert still was able to be an incredibly loving and caring family man. He is survived by his 4 children, Jan, Ken, Ross and Jill, 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

A tribute to his involvement and influence with skiing will appear in the Summer Issue of the Perisher Historical Association Newsletter.
