It was a big weekend for NSW snowsport clubs as informative and friendly ‘meet & greets’ were conducted over 29-30 June.

The welcome sessions for Thredbo Mountain Academy, Perisher Winter Sports Club (WSC) and Thredbo Ski Racing Club (TSRC) also coincided with their first weekend of official training.

As well as being introduced to new and returning coaches, hundreds of athletes and parents were given an update on the Clubs’ training programs for the winter ahead.

The vibes were positive, energy levels were high and athletes were feeling excited about the season ahead.

Program Directors Jono Brauer of Thredbo Mountain Academy, Christian Geiger from Perisher WSC and Craig Branch of TSRC, talked about the importance of foundational skill development and the need for athletes to embrace their training programs with discipline, focus and energy.

Senior support staff from each club answered parent and athlete questions, handed out jackets, encouraged the signing of athlete agreements, impressed the importance of packing healthy lunches and outlined the various age-group training calendars and procedures.

Ski and Snowboard Australia (SSA) Alpine Co-ordinator Shawn Fleming is in the midst of running alpine skills assessments and he spoke to athletes about the importance of developing sound alpine skiing skills.

“Creating better skiers will allow clubs to create faster ski racers,” Fleming said.

SSA Performance Director Ben Wordsworth and Pathway Coordinator Rebecca Clark also provided attendees with an overview of the new FTEM athlete pathway.
