Dear Alpine Skiing Community,

We are just passed halfway through the winter, and it has been great to have had the opportunity to be out with clubs, the athletes, and coaches. Everywhere I have visited so far has been met with some great ski days, smiles, and positive attitudes. Mother Nature tried to throw us a bit of a curve ball last week however it appears all the resorts have managed well and made it out the other side still with great skiing on offer. 

I will be travelling to Mt Buller for this weekend and the following week, and I look forward to catching up with the MBRC community, athletes, and coaches over the coming days. Sami Sim will be accompanying me on my visit to Buller to work with athletes and coaches and share her experiences as a World Cup athlete and some specific insights to Ski Cross.
Snow Australia staff will also join over the weekend to meet with MBRC parents in a town hall format on Saturday, August 13th, from 5:00pm at the auditorium to present on the Athlete Pathway.

The race notice has been released for the upcoming Snow Australia Children’s Carnival to be held Sept. 1st – 5th at Thredbo Resort. For a detailed program and registration information please see HERE

The countdown to the Ski Cross Futures event in Hotham is on. August 29th and 30th will see an opportunity to develop skills on a ski cross track. Surrounded by national team members and staff, the Futures days are the perfect upskilling opportunity for athletes looking to gain experience in ski cross and compete at the Hotham ANC series. Registrations are now open for the FIS ANC Ski Cross series held in Hotham.  From August 31st to September 3rd, we are excited to host ski cross racing after a two-year hiatus. This event is perfect as an introduction to FIS Ski Cross racing and is a whole lot of fun. Register HERE

I am looking forward to seeing athletes transition into racing across the end of the month- After all, the motivation to put time into training is to push out of the start at a race!

The Children's Carnival is a great opportunity for those young skiers (U14/16) in club programs to come together and compete in a fun and relaxed environment. Included in the event schedule are Slalom, Giant Slalom, Ski Cross and a Skills Challenge.

Registrations are now open for the FIS ANC Ski Cross series in Hotham from August 31st to September 3rd,

ANC Events form a critical aspect of the high-performance pathway, providing athletes with opportunities to develop competition experience and gather FIS points in Australia. Ski Cross is a new addition this year to the Mt Hotham ANC and Snow Australia FUTURES Events.

"Racing in the ANC Ski Cross Series gives athletes a taste of international competition and hopefully entices them to enter competitions during their northern hemisphere seasons in Europe and North America. Competing in these events fuels the pathway from FIS races, to World Junior Championships, Europa Cup, World Cup and even the Olympic Games."  Said Olympic Ski Cross Athlete and Snow Australia Sport Development Coordinator Sami Sim. 

Snow Australia FUTURES Ski Cross Sessions will give participants the opportunity to experience a day in the life of our national team athletes. 

Participants will be coached by national team athletes and coaches, increase their ski cross experience and learn the terminology and how to move like an athlete. Time will be spent on the ski cross track learning about proper course inspections, the race formats and technical and tactical focus while racing head-to-head. 

The program is designed to lead into the ANC Ski Cross Series, Australia’s premier Ski Cross 
events.

This year the SnowReady program has been a popular way for our snowsports community to get themselves fit to return to skiing and snowboarding. 

We are excited to reward our keen eyed SnowReady participants with the opportunity to win a season pass for 2023. 

To enter the competition all you need to do is collect each of the Secret letters embedded in the 8 episodes in order and enter them in the form on this page. Entry in this competition is free. The competition opens on the 20th of July, 2022 and entries will close at 5:00pm on the 16th of September, 2022.

Applications are currently open for the Sport Australia Local Sporting Champions program.

The program is designed to assist athletes attend championship events with grants of between $500 and $750. Follow the link below for more information, how to apply and to watch how this grant assisted Olympic SBX athlete Adam Lambert when he was going through the development pathway.

The FIS Masters Race will return to the World Cup ski run at Thredbo this winter! 

Registrations for the FIS Masters are now open for the four-day event that runs from Friday 19 - Sunday 21 of August.
