SkiMo Community Update - March 2025 |
Welcome all you SkiMo lovers,
As the northern hemisphere season begins to slowly wrap up it's been an amazing month of racing for our record-breaking Australian team.
In Bormio, the Australian SkiMo team made history with a record-breaking 10 athletes competing in both the mixed relay and sprint events at a World Cup featuring one of the deepest fields seen yet. Despite the tough competition, the team delivered standout performances, with all female athletes achieving season-best results and Phillip Bellingham just 5 seconds shy of qualifying in the Sprint. In the mixed relay, Lara Hamilton and Bellingham set personal bests, finishing 29th out of 63 teams, while Ava McCann achieved her best result in her SkiMo career. It was a weekend of personal milestones and remarkable efforts by the Australian team!
Our team then moved to Morgins where the Ski Mountaineering World Championships were held; The ISMF World Championships showcased some of the most intense and thrilling SkiMo racing to date, with a number of Australian athletes competing across a variety of events. Highlights included impressive individual performances from Lara Hamilton, who placed 19th in the Vertical, and Kate Zander, who finished 33rd in the Individual event. The Teams race saw Bastien Missud and Daniel Trevena push through extreme fatigue to finish 25th in their first-ever World Championship team competition. Despite facing tough conditions, all athletes demonstrated resilience and determination, contributing to a successful chapter for Australian SkiMo.
Immediately following Morgins the team wasted no time attacking the steep and brutal Schladming World Cup competing in both the Sprint and the Vertical across the weekend. Huge shout out to Lara Hamilton and her stunning result in the Vertical, crushing it on her way to a season best 13th overall.
With the season not quite over, we have two more World Cup stops where our team are able to continue rewriting the record book. Join me in celebrating an amazing season and supporting those athletes still competing!
All the best,
Brian

Aussie Skimo athletes compete at the Olympic test event |
Bormio saw the height of SkiMo racing this past weekend, with arguably deepest field ever seen at a World Cup. This presented the perfect opportunity for the Australian SkiMo team to test their metal against the best in the world and on the course designed for the Milan Cortina Olympics.
10 Australian Athletes competed in both the mixed relay and sprint events over the weekend, utilising a course with 70+ meters of elevation gain, jumps and berms.
