Snow Australia Women of Winter Working Group

Snow Australia is proud to announce the formation of the Women of Winter (WoW) – Working Group, a key initiative aimed at fostering engagement, support, and empowerment for women in snowsports.

The Working Group will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategy and operations to enhance women’s participation in snowsports. Through the development and execution of a targeted strategic plan, the group will foster connections, create opportunities, and drive meaningful growth across the industry.

 

 

Caroline Brauer 

With over 25 years experience in ski industry, Caroline brings experience across a variety of areas within the industry including resort marketing and communications, business management, retail and instructing. Kicking off her snowsports career as a 16yr old on work experience as a ski instructor in Falls Creek, Caroline fell in love with the industry and went on to instruct in Aspen, Niseko and Thredbo, as well as running a ski lodge in Niseko in the early 2000s. Fast forward a couple of decades spent getting a university degree, building a successful career in law then marketing/communications and starting a young family, Caroline returned to the Snowy Mountains and became Director of Brand & Marketing for Thredbo in 2019. Caroline now works as Brand & Marketing Director for Pit Viper Australia and Sendy MTB Gear, as well as Owner/Operator of The Arc Skier Development Programs.   

 

Bella Hackworth 

As a long-time skier, snowsports professional, and active community member in both Australian and Japanese resorts, Bella brings a deep understanding of the industry, a strong professional network, and a passion for advancing women in the field. In addition, she is a passionate HR Business Partner for Deloitte Australia, where she is dedicated to nurturing talent and supporting senior executives in achieving their strategic goals. Bella is excited about the future of the ski industry, and the chance to contribute to building a more inclusive and diverse community. 

 

amy hodge

Amy is the Resort Services Manager for falls Creek Ski Lifts, looking after Tickets, Rental, Retail and Snowsports School. She has been living and working at Falls Creek since 2004 and commenced with Falls Creek Ski Lifts in 2009. Amy’s position oversees 300 staff during the Winter months. She is also a busy mum to 5 children and owns and runs a lodge at Falls Creek with her partner which they are currently extensively renovating. Amy is looking forward to her role on the WOW committee. 

 

Rachael Oakes-Ash

Rachael Oakes-Ash (@misssnowitall) is Australia’s leading multi-media ski journalist. A former snow travel columnist for Fairfax media for 10 years,  she founded SnowsBest.com, Australasia’s leading digital editorial platform for skiers and boarders, in 2014.  Since then she’s reported on the ground for the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, founded the #showusdagirls female snow movement, created the SnowAid Australia bushfire auction raising over $230k for bushfire relief, brought Canada’s snow feature filmmaker Katie Burrell to Australia and New Zealand for a national film tour and regularly partners with Olympic Winter Institute of Australia as the “voice of” FIS World Cup previews for Australian athletes. Rachael is also an experienced keynote speaker, media trainer, event producer, radio/tv host, documentary maker and Random House author. 

 

angela pope

Angela has been part of the Snowsports industry for over a decade, working as an instructor, coach, examiner, and trainer. She is a Level 4 Examiner Trainer, serving her second term on the APSI National Team and a member of the APSI Alpine Technical Committee. Angela currently works for Thredbo and Aspen. Skiing and the mountain community mean everything to Angela, and her love helping others push their skills and reach their goals. She is excited to be part of the Women of Winter Working Group, working alongside inspiring women to create more opportunities and helping build a more inclusive, supportive, and accessible environment where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. 

 

Katerina Paul 

Alongside being an elite Cross Country skier, Katerina actively supports diversity and inclusion in sports, proudly serving as both an Australian Institute of Sport "Thrive with Pride" Ambassador and a “Good Village Program” Ambassador. Katerina is a member of the National Cross Country Committee and a non-executive board member for Biathlon Australia. She is currently working in the sports media industry as a sports journalist for a winter based international sports media company. 

 

Monique Schreiber 

Having lived in Jindabyne the past 10yrs, Monique has spent multiple seasons in Whistler and is passionate about snowsports and the Alpine environment. With a strong background in Outdoor Education, and passionate about making a difference she has recently spearheaded a First Nations Snowsports Program and looks forward to connecting and supporting women in the Industry. 

 

Anna Thorley 

Skiing and sport have played a significant role in Anna’s family's life. Having learned to ski in Perisher from the age of three, skiing and sport is a time for her family to come together, connect and make memories. With over eight years in partnerships and sales, five in the sports industry, including her current role at the AFL as Senior New Business Lead, Anna is passionate about women’s sports and driving participation at all levels.
