About Little Shredders

Skiing and snowboarding are among Australia's largest and most popular participation sports, attracting over 1.2 million people every year. Snowsports is part of the Australian culture, with families of all backgrounds often planning yearly trips to the snow.

Snowsports are a sport for life; no matter your age or physical capability; you can participate and spend time with your family and friends on the slopes. As a sport with specific and technical skill requirements; it is essential that children learn the basics at an early age to begin the development of key skills that will foster a lifelong love of snowsports. Kids from right across Australia are now able to learn how to ski and snowboard before attending the snow! Kids will have fun, make friends, and learn lots of new skills like agility, balance and snow safety.

Little Shredders is a participation product developed by Snow Australia that brings the basics of snowsports to primary schools and community organisations across Australia. Little Shredders is based on the hugely popular Burton Riglet product that provides the opportunity for children to learn the basics of snowsports from the convenience of the school yard through game-based learning. The program utilises custom-made modified equipment built specifically for use in the school yard and is an introductory program that teaches children the fundamental skills and knowledge to prepare them for an on-snow experience.

The Program Explained

Little Shredders is focused on introducing children of all ages to snowsports with the aim of developing children's knowledge, physical preparedness, and confidence to go to the snow and participate in Australia's coolest sport.

Little Shredders is an off-snow product, with the sessions delivered on almost any surface or vacant space at your school using modified equipment.

Little Shredders introduces a curriculum of fun and inclusive off-snow modules, delivered in the school ground, to prepare children for an on-snow experience. These modules cover such skills as snowsport specific balance, technique, equipment, and snow safe knowledge together with spatial awareness exercises in a fun team environment.

Developed in partnership with the Australian Sports Commission, Little Shredders not only develops students' basic alpine motor skills, it's also lots of fun for both teachers and students.

Little Shredders can be structured to be delivered as a four-session program on the school grounds, and can be delivered before, during or after school. The Little Shredders resources provide a structured program that includes four lesson plans and other key information to help teachers and coaches deliver at a high level.
